Graduations, Babies, and Birthdays!!

It has been a while since I posted, but I wanted to share a few projects I completed in the past month.  Hope you enjoy:

These are cake balls made for a baby shower as well as a graduation party.

This giant chocolate cupcake was made for a 5 year old's hawaiian themed birthday party.  The hibiscus  were made from gumpaste so that everything is edible.

These are the smaller cupcakes I made for her to share with her friends :)

This cake for baby Austin was made to match his bedding.  It was a chocolate and white marble cake with chocolate buttercream and fondant decorations.

This cake was done for my mother-in-law's birthday.  Carnations are her favorite flowers, so I made them out of gumpaste and frosted the chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream.

Passionate Patriots

I had a lot of fun this week creating a cake for Goose Creek Memorial High School's Passionate Patriot fundraiser.  I made a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing.  I molded their school's logo out of rice crispy treats and covered it in fondant to top the cake.  I hope it was enjoyed by the winner of the auction!

TURNING 30

It has been a while since I have made a post.  I have been on a little break in taking cake orders due to some exciting news that my husband and I were given.  We are expecting a baby in September!!  We are so excited, but the first stages of pregnancy left me pretty exhausted and postponed my cake decorating for a few weeks.  I am back in business and enjoying every minute of it.  This is the first cake I have done since taking my short break.

This is a 30th birthday cake done for a coworker.  It is a strawberry cake with buttercream icing.    It is covered in fondant with flowers made out of gum paste.

Sesame Treats

These are Cookie Monsters, Elmos, and Oscar the Grouches for a 3 year old birthday party.  I used Oreo cookies and Chips Ahoy for the mouths, marshmallows for the eyes, and DOTS for Elmo's nose.

This Abby Cadabby cake was also for the 3 year old's birthday party.  The Abby Cadabby figure is made out of gum paste and is all edible although I don't think she would taste that good :)

"Gotta catch 'em all"

Well, I had my first order for a cake this week.  It was lots of fun to make.  My friend from school asked me to do a cake for her son's 17th birthday.  She decided on a strawberry cake with vanilla icing and wanted it to have a Pokemon theme.  I really knew nothing about Pokemon so I had to do some research to come up with an idea.  I settled on doing a three tiered cake.  The bottom tier was done with two 10 in square cakes, the middle was three 8 in round cakes and the top was done with a ball cake pan.  Each layer was strawberry with a vanilla buttercream center.  I covered each tier in fondant, but I did something a little different.  I made some modeling chocolate and kneaded a 1/3 chocolate and 2/3 fondant.  This made the fondant taste a little better than it normally does.  I proceeded to cover the bottom two tiers with blue fondant and yellow starts.  The round ball cake on top was made into the Pokeman ball from the cartoon.  I had so much fun working on this cake and hope that Bryan (the birthday boy) really enjoyed it.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRYAN :)
